Since leaving HMAS Leeuwin in June 1970, we have sadly lost the following members.
Our memorial to those classmates who have passed away. It is with love and sympathy that we remember those classmates as they were so important to so many.
There may be others among the members we have been unable to locate thus far. May they all live on in the hearts and memories of their loved ones. They are all truly missed.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we Forget
Friendship isn't a big thing it's a million little things.

I have personally confirmed the death of Glen Thomas Goding from his mother, Sue in Berkely NSW. At the time he apparently lived at Mount Martin mine near Kalgoolie WA. He was found unconscious outside his residence on the 14th May 1987. Glen was eventually airlifted to intensive care at a Perth Hospital where he unfortunately passed away three days later. He had complained of headaches for several days prior and was not aware he had an aneurism in the back of his head since birth. RIP my friend.
My sincere apologies to you Sue and other family members for the inaccuracy previously written. As you know I can only relate to what was said to me.

Discharged 25th April 1977 deceased according to Naval records.
This is how Blue Walters describes Trevors unfortunate demise....Quote "Trevor was a neighbor of mine and had just returned on VAMPIRE from a 3 month deployment. He was the QM so he decided to stay on board and do all his shifts on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He came home Sunday night and on the Monday he spent the day with his wife and kids had lunch at McDonalds and was on his way home when he came across an old couple with a flat tyre. He stopped and changed their tyre and as he reached his drivers door a car came around the corner and slammed into Trevor. He died instantly and the pity was that his wife and kids saw the accident". unquote
A good man who has been sorely missed, RIP Trev.

It is my unhappy job to inform you that Graham has recently died. This sad news comes from the Last Post section of REVEILLE a regular periodical from RSL (NSW).
Sad news and our thoughts and condolences are with Graham's family.
By Shady Lane:
"I must say that in my time at Leeuwin, PO Mayes was a positive role model for me. He was always fair, honest and supportive. As we all know, not all Training Staff at Leeuwin conducted themselves in this manner.
Personally, on more than one occasion, when being so far from home and family and finding the going just about too much, I sought council from PO Mayes and never once did he turn me away or patronize me but gave what I now understand as "fatherly" advise, without it I am certain I would not have seen the 12 Months at Leeuwin out".
May your crossing of the bar have been peaceful, may fair winds and bright seas bless your passage, you will remain in our hearts, PO.
Vale, Grahame.
THE NAVAL ODE
They have no grave but the cruel sea,
No flowers lay at their head.
A rusting hulk is their tombstone,
Afast on the ocean bed.
They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning...
We shall remember them.
" Lest we forget "

Eternal Father
– The "Navy Hymn"Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
And grant eternal life on high!
The "Navy Hymn" is Eternal Father, Strong to Save. The original words were written as a poem in 1860 by William Whiting of Winchester, England, for a student who was about to sail for the United States. The melody, published in 1861, was composed by fellow Englishman, Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, an Episcopalian clergyman.
The hymn, found in most hymnals, is known as the "Navy hymn".
Eternal Father was the favorite hymn of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and was sung at his funeral in Hyde Park, New York, in April 1945. It was also played by the Navy Band in 1963 as President John F. Kennedy's body was carried up the steps of the U.S. Capitol to lie in state. Roosevelt had served as Secretary of the Navy and Kennedy was a PT boat commander in World War II.
